John
Koehm DVM, FAVD Dr. John Koehm
graduated from the University of Illinois in 1972. He has
been serving and caring for animals as the owner of
Community Animal Hospital
since 1978.
His continuous and growing interest in veterinary
dentistry has taken him to a new level of expertise and
patient care. Since the early 1990s Dr. Koehm has received
hundreds of hours of continuing education credits guided by
his focus on veterinary dentistry. This has included
studying with both veterinary and human dentists. In January
2002, he began limiting his professional activities to the
practice of veterinary dentistry in such fields as
periodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, orthodontics,
exodontics, and prosthodontics.
Dr. Koehm has completed his credentials and
examination requirements to become a
Fellow of the Academy
of Veterinary Dentistry. He is also the first Fellow in the
state of Nevada and 1 of 86 in the world. |

Colleen Crist,
DVM
Dr.
Colleen Crist received her Bachelor of Science
degree in Biology from the
University
of
Nevada,
Reno,
in 1999. She then attended
Kansas
State
University
College
of
Veterinary Medicine
where she was awarded her Doctorate in
Veterinary Medicine in 2003.
Dr.
Crist then moved with her husband, Dustin, also
a graduate from
Kansas
State
Veterinary
School, to
Newport News,
Virginia. There she practiced at a small animal
clinic for 3 years and Dustin practiced as an
ambulatory equine veterinarian.
Wanting
to be closer to family, Dr. Crist and her
husband decided to move to
Reno,
Nevada in 2006. Dr. Crist and her husband
live in Cold Springs where they reside
with 2 cats, Woody
and Slate. Dr. Crist's interests in
veterinary medicine include internal medicine,
dentistry, dermatology, and soft tissue
surgery. She recently started pursuing
credentials and requirements to become a Fellow
of the Academy of Dentistry. Outside of work, she enjoys
spending time with her family, camping, jogging,
hiking, reading, and baking.

Julie
McMahon
LVT, VTS (Dentistry)
In
2002 Julie received her Veterinary Technician license after
completing the technician program at the Community College
of Southern Nevada. Her long history in the veterinary
field began in 1987 and continues today.
Julie started working at Community Animal Hospital in
2002 and is a very valuable part of the dental team.
She has taken another giant step on her
ladder of success. Julie
has worked in our Oral Health Department as our primary dental
technician since February 2002.
Since then she has gained extensive knowledge and
experience in endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics,
restorative dentistry, and oral surgery.
Julie recently reached the pinnacle of her chosen field,
becoming a member of the
Academy
of
Veterinary Dental Technicians
. After two years
of painstaking study, credentialing, and rigorous examination,
Julie was rewarded with membership in this elite group of only
28 members nationwide. The
next time you see Julie, give her a High Five.
She deserves it!
Besides
working at the hospital, Julie enjoys being with her family,
fishing, and camping. |

Nancy Smith
LVT, VTS (Dentistry)
In Nancy started her
career in veterinary medicine in May of 1990. She
received her license in veterinary technology in
2001 after completing the technician program offered
through the Community College of Southern Nevada.
She is licensed in both Nevada and California. As
part of the first class of 2006, she successfully
completed the credentialing process and examination
required by the Academy of Veterinary Dental
Technicians to attain the title of Veterinary
Technician, Specialist in Dentistry. She is the
technician representative on the board of the Nevada
Veterinary Medical Association and is also on the
board for the Veterinary Technology Program of
Truckee Meadows Community College. Nancy’s interest
in dentistry brought her to Community Animal
Hospital where she will continue her career in the
veterinary field. On her off time, Nancy is a voice
for lost and abandoned animals. She has participated
in animal rescue and adoption having found “forever”
homes for many unwanted animals. She also loves to
spend time with her own dogs, cats, birds and
horses. Her family is most important to her, she has
a daughter, son-in-law and 3 incredible
grandchildren in N. California. |
